My Approach
My priority is to create a space in which you feel safe, valued, and heard, while at the same time sufficiently challenged to confront and build tolerance for painful feelings. I take a collaborative approach, and invite you to ask any and all questions and share your candid feedback so that we can make sure you are getting what you need from treatment. In general, I tend to follow your lead. While I often offer my reflections and interpretations, I also give you ample room to bring your full self and range of emotions into view, as well as to experiment with new ideas and ways of relating. As a therapist, I try to balance encouraging you to use therapy to take risks and explore, while also providing you with enough guidance to feel supported and held.

I work within a relational psychodynamic framework, which means that I draw upon what happens in the space between us to understand and explore patterns that may occur for you outside of therapy. A strong and trusting relationship between patient and therapist, therefore, is a crucial foundation for deep and meaningful therapeutic work to unfold. I am also curious about your early experiences and the ways in which they may have shaped the way you think and feel about yourself, others, and the world. Together, we will work to uncover and understand potentially hidden or unconscious wishes, fears, motivations, and strong emotions that may be impacting your life in ways that are outside of your awareness. When we acknowledge, experience, and integrate thoughts and feelings that were previously kept at bay, we begin to develop a greater sense of authenticity, self-compassion, and acceptance, which can help us live more fully and freely.

In addition to this more psychodynamic, exploratory work, I also draw upon my training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to offer more structured, concrete skills when needed. This approach tends to be most helpful in situations requiring more immediate symptom relief, for example when your emotions feel completely out of control. I also like to use DBT-based approaches to help patients learn more effective ways of communicating their needs, practicing assertiveness, and navigating interpersonal conflict.

Consultation Call
After you make initial contact, we will schedule a brief 15-20 minute consultation call, during which time you can tell me more about your reasons for seeking therapy and ask any questions you may have about my services, including questions about insurance, fees, and sliding scale. If we decide that I seem like the right fit for your needs, we will proceed with scheduling the first therapy session. Prior to the first session, you will receive a link to fill out an online intake questionnaire and consent forms to be electronically signed.
Sessions
Currently, my practice is fully virtual, with sessions taking place on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Individual therapy sessions are either 45 minutes or 60 minutes. For the first few sessions, we will meet weekly. Once we more clearly establish your needs and treatment goals, we can increase or decrease the frequency of our meetings to either twice per week or every other week. Patients must be located in the state of New York during therapy sessions.
Cancellation Policy
When cancelling or rescheduling sessions, please provide at least 48 hours notice. If you request to reschedule less than 48 hours from the scheduled session, I will make every effort to find an alternative time within the same week. If we are unable to do so, the session will be charged in full.

Out-of-Network
If you don't have insurance, or if sessions with me are not covered by your insurance plan, payment will be out of pocket. I may be able to offer a sliding scale rate based on income and financial need, depending on the availability of my reduced rate spots. We can discuss financial details during our initial consultation call. Most insurance plans have some kind of out-of-network coverage, which means that you may be able to receive substantial reimbursement for sessions that you pay for out of pocket. I highly encourage you to call your insurance company to inquire about your out-of-network benefits. If you do indeed have these benefits, I will provide you with a monthly "superbill", which is essentially an insurance-friendly invoice, that you can submit for reimbursement.
Here are some questions I'd recommend asking your insurance when you call them:
-
Do I have out-of-network coverage for outpatient psychotherapy (CPT code 90834 and/or 90837)?
-
I would like to see a licensed clinical psychologist from NYC zip code 10001 who is out-of-network. Her NPI number is 1164900916. What is the percentage/dollar amount I can expect to be reimbursed per session?
-
Do I have a deductible I must first meet? If so, how much is it? How much of it have I already met?
-
Is there a cap on the number of visits per year?
-
What is the process of submitting claims?
-
How long will it take for me to receive my reimbursement?
